Gen and Shane Jadidi - November 2013
This was a cake I had been looking forward to making when I knew that Gen had found the one she wanted to marry. I knew her theme was going to be peacock, it had been for a while :) We looked at many cakes for inspiration and found one that she absolutely loved. This is my interpretation of that cake. Lots of petals were made with the colors above. They dried and curled to create a "feather" look. The cake was covered in white fondant and the dusted with pearl luster dust. The feathers were attached to the cake with butter cream and then dusted with luster dust. It turned out so beautiful. The cake its self was a lime cake with a raspberry sauce and butter cream filling.
The best part of this cake was the 3/4 of was made with Styrofoam. The topper that the beautiful couple cut into was real cake. I then prepared a sheet cake for the guests. It created the look of a stunning cake with out having leftover cake for years.
I use this technique to achieve the look that the couple want, in this case a large statement cake. When their guest count doesn't support the amount of cake that this cake would serve, using the Styrofoam helps in not having lots of left overs. It also helps in the cost of the cake.
